Moving the Unmovable
One of our most memorable and challenging moves involved transporting the Wright “B” Flyer lookalike, the Model B. This iconic piece of history is held in high regard, especially in Dayton, Ohio, where the Wright brothers first made their mark on the world.
The original Wright “B” Flyer was an early aircraft developed by the Wright brothers in 1910. It represented a significant leap in aviation technology and played a crucial role in the history of flight. The Model B lookalike we moved is an exact replica of this aircraft. It has been carefully crafted to honor the legacy of the Wright brothers in Dayton, OH.
Planning and Logistics
The plane measures 28 feet, 11 inches long and weighs approximately 1,450 pounds, requiring careful planning for its movement. We took into account several factors:
- Local Traffic Routes: Choosing the safest and most efficient path.
- Size and Shape: Ensuring the plane’s dimensions could be accommodated.
- Fragility: Identifying and protecting the most delicate parts.
With these considerations in mind, we developed a plan for the safe delivery of the plane, including contingencies for any potential issues. On the day of the move, everything proceeded smoothly and without a hitch.
Journey to the Museum
Moving the Model B was no small feat. The replica required careful planning and precision to ensure safety protocols were met and delivered. The journey ended in the successful delivery of the Model B to its new home in a museum in Dayton, Ohio! It now stands as a testament to the determination of the Wright brothers themselves.
